Ospreys Introduce Sammy the Silly Goose!

Breaking News: Sammy the Silly Goose Joins the Jacksonville Ospreys Family!

Jacksonville, NC – The Jacksonville Ospreys are thrilled to introduce their newest mascot, Sammy the Silly Goose! Sammy is no stranger to the Jacksonville area, as many of his extended family members love to spend time checking out all the shops and restaurants on and around Western Blvd, even halting traffic to cross the road. Sammy takes his name after Sammy Philips, Jacksonville's longtime mayor and public servant of our great community.

Sammy is looking forward to adding some extra silliness to the Ospreys! Orville the Osprey, our beloved mascot, is excited to have a buddy at the ballpark but said, "I will need to keep a close eye on Sammy the Silly Goose to make sure his shenanigans don't get too out of hand." When asked what Sammy thinks of Orville keeping an eye on him, Sammy replied, "Orville has nothing to worry about. We go together like lamp and tuna fish!"

Sammy the Silly Goose is known for his playful antics and infectious laughter. Here are a few fun facts about Sammy:

  • Favorite Snack: Sammy loves munching on popcorn and cotton candy, often sneaking a bite during games.

  • Signature Move: The "Goose Waddle Dance" – a hilarious dance that gets the crowd cheering and laughing (especially the lade gooses!)

  • Hobby: Sammy enjoys photobombing fans' selfies, making every picture a memorable one.

  • Catchphrase: "Honk if you love baseball!

  • Favorite jersey number and player: 7, and the great Mickey Mantle who also wore #7 on his baseball jersey

  • Favorite Childhood Memory: Playing baseball among other sports at Jack Amyette Park as a little gosling with his buddies as a gaggle of players having fun before dinner time. 

  • Favorite Movie: The Mighty Ducks!

With Sammy's arrival, the Jacksonville Ospreys are set for a season filled with laughter, excitement, and unforgettable memories. Fans can look forward to seeing Sammy and Orville team up to bring joy and entertainment to every game at Jack Amyette Park.
